Motorola’s first Android OS powered device is set to hit UK stores tomorrow – some say maybe as early as today! According to Orange,
“Ranged exclusively on the Orange network in the UK, Motorola DEXT will be on sale in Orange retail outlets from October 7th and in Phones 4U stores from October 8th.”
Motorola is considered to be been somewhat “behind” in the smartphone world, as they have always focused on creating innovative feature phones such as the Motorola ROKR and the super popular Motorola RAZR. Their smartphone OS of choice as always been Windows Mobile, but their appeal has always somewhat been neglected compared to HTC or Samsung (especially HTC). This is all about to change as Motorola adapts Android’s technology with the social networking focused “MotoBlur” campaign.

MotoBlur embodies the importance of social networking. All your friends, all your networks, organized on one view, at the tap of a screen. Facebook, Twitter, Myspace, “Your World on Tap”. No doubt this is very similar to Nokia’s own “Online as it Happens” campaign, but with a keener focus on connecting you with your friends, rather than optimizing live widgets in it’s entirety.

Motorola has always been quite successful in their previous campaigns. I remember a few years ago, almost everyone I knew had a Motorola Razr. Before I knew about mobile phones, heck, even I wanted one. However, as smartphones became more popular, the Razr’s have been replaced by the almighty Blackberry – Pearl, Curve, Bold, Pearl Flip, you name it. With MotoBlur, I guess Motorola wants to make a comeback to the mobile phone industry and let consumers know,
“Hey, we can make smartphones too. And we can make it better with social networking at your fingertips”.
However, I feel like this will be overshadowed by a more gorgeous, seamless, and intuitive Android device – the HTC Hero.
