Broadcom has annouced they have designed a new mobile chip, the BCM4329, that will help connect mobiles, that’s saves precious space inside.
This new chip will offer all 3 (WiFi, Bluetooth, and FM Radio) from the single chip. This means you would have every type of connectivity in one nice neat little package. That means mobile manufactures could pack on better camera modules, or more device memory, and so forth.
The chip will be the one of the first to enable 802.11n WiFi band, allowing up to 50Mbps at less power than on B/G bands. The FM Radio will also transmit, meaning you could tune in your mobile’s MP3’s through your car’s radio, or use your car’s stereo for a giant speakerphone.
The BCM4329 will be available in 2009. With the annoucement of this chip, there should be no excuse for mobile makers to leave this chip out. Hopefully more and more new mobiles will have this trifecta chip, it’s a big step forward for how we connect our beloved devices.
