Nokia N900’s Maemo 5 Promotional Video
This Maemo5 promotional video was recently released by Nokia Conversations. It features a really cool overview of the new linux based Maemo 5 operating system on the Nokia N900. It is clear that Nokia wants to stress new seamlessly fluid UI and have included features such as kinetic scrolling, finger swiping, and “twirl” zooming (Nokia’s version of Apple’s pinch zooming). One of the most interesting features would be cursor mode. The user is able to bring up a mouse cursor in order to navigate through content with higher precision. I don’t know why Nokia had to mention the copy/paste ability on the N900 in this video, as this “feature” is to be expected on any mobile device. Perhaps it is to take a shot at the Apple iPhone for natively omitting this rather basic operation from their 2G and 3G releases. Either way, Maemo 5 is definitely shaping to provide users with a very clean, vibrant, and refreshing mobile experience compared to the rather “outdate” Symbian OS.
