Epikcase: A Great Case For Your Nokia 5800

The Epikcase from DC Mugen

Initial Impressions
Having had the epikcase on my Nokia E71 for sometime, I knew exactly what to expect when I ordered another for my Nokia 5800. The case can be purchased on eBay for approximately $5-6 USD. The packaged within 7-10 business days from DC Mugen, containing a transparent black Epikcase and a complimentary crystal clear screen protector.

The epikcase is a “soft-hard” case. The case feels similar to a silicone case, but has more strength and resistance due to the resin material. Resin was a great choice because it is smooth, easy to clean, and does not “cling” to your pockets when you attempt to pull out your device.

The Nokia 5800 epikcase has a rather interesting lizard pattern on it. On the black epikcase, the designs are rarely visible, even in bright lighting. I personally would prefer a blank case. However, some people may find this design attractive.

Fit and Function

The epikcase has got to be one of the tightest fitting cases I have ever seen. It molds perfectly to the Nokia 5800, and I can guarantee that there will be no chances of the case accidentally slipping off.

Not only is the case tight, but the dimensions of the case are thick and thin in just the right places. The front of the epikcase is beveled, preventing the screen and the front buttons from being scratched when the device is placed face down.

There is also a beveled border around the rear camera, which will help prevent scratching when the device is placed onto a flat surface.

The case has a series of slits in appropriate places that allow access to the top buttons and stylus with no trouble at all.

The slits around the stereo speakers are a perfect size, and do not affect the quality and volume of the sound. However, the Nokia 5800 epikcase lacks slits for quick access to the memory card and SIM card.* I personally do not take the memory card out very often. Instead, I transfer all my files and data via USB cable. This little issue may prove to be problematic to users who frequently transfer files onto their device via memory card.

*Attention:
I have just been informed by DC Mugen that the new shipment of Epikcases has resolved this issue. The new epikcases for the Nokia 5800 will have slits for the memory card and SIM card.

Even though the case does not add bulk to the device, the resin material is slightly heavily than traditional silicone cases. I personally love the slight added weight it provides a sense of security when my phone is in my pocket or in my hands.

The epikcase by itself weighs in at 16 grams.

The epikcase with the Nokia 5800 weighs in at 133 grams.
