How to Fix Nokia Carbide After the N97 Plugin Bugs

On July 2, Forum Nokia released an N97 plugin for their Carbide theming program. Unbeknownst to users, there were many major unexpected issues associated with this plugin installation. Once Carbide was open, most theme files had stopped rendering and the program would freeze and shut down.

The Issue
Themer Dhanusaud conducted a series of experiments and discovered some very interesting results:

Carbide 3.4 + E66 Plugin + E71 Plugin + E75 Plugin = Will Work without any problems
Carbide 3.4 + E66 Plugin + E71 Plugin + E75 Plugin + 5th Edition Plugin= Will not work in any case
Carbide 3.4 + E66 Plugin + E71 Plugin + E75 Plugin + N97 Plugin= Will not work in any case
Carbide 3.4 + 5th Edition Plugin + N97 Plugin= Will not work in any case
Carbide 3.4 + E75 Plugin + N97 Plugin= May work on Carbide’s 1st Install
Carbide 3.4 + E75 Plugin + 5th Edition Plugin= Works on Carbide’s 1st Install (May have problem if you have installed/uninstalled E66, E71 Plugin)
Carbide 3.4 + N97 Plugin= Will work without any problems
Carbide 3.4 + 5th Edition Plugin= Will work without any problems
Carbide 3.4 + E66 Plugin + E71 Plugin + N97 Plugin = Will Work without any problems
Carbide 3.4 + E66 Plugin + E71 Plugin + 5th Edition Plugin = Will Work without any problems

It appears that the N97/5th Edition plugin simply could not be installed with the E75 plugin.

The Solution
The Carbide Theme Edition Compiler
Nokia released this compiler after the Nokia N97 Carbide plugin. These series of files will resolve the rendering and runtime errors of the plugin and will allow the user to any plugin they desire without Carbide crashing.

Installation
The content of the ZIP archive should be extracted to the root folder of the Carbide.ui installation folder. The default folder is C:\Program Files\Nokia\Carbide.ui Theme Edition 3.4.

  • Close Carbide.ui.
  • Open the folder C:\Program Files\Nokia\Carbide.ui Theme Edition 3.4\Eclipse\plugins
  • \com.nokia.tools.packaging_3.4.0.0\runtime\win32.

  • Select the folder containing the required plug-in.
  • Copy the compiler file into the win32 folder, overwriting the existing file.
  • Restart Carbide.ui and package the theme as normal.
