  • Perhaps you want to create a nice screenshot of your theme but you're not satisfied with the preview screens in CarbideUI as they don't always mirror the look of your theme on a real phone. Or perhaps you just want to be able to customize your screens a bit more, e.g. touch up the preview image of the "SMS input" screen with a nice, personal message to fellow tehkies, or..., or....
  • Perhaps you're an S40 themer with a Series 40 5th Edition phone and want to see how your theme comes out on an older Series 40 3d Edition phone.

In every case, the accordant emulators from Forum Nokia may be something for you.
They almost work like the real thing; with them, you can test your theme directly on your computer and make screenshots.

The emulators are free; you must be registered at Forum Nokia to be able to download them and register them after a period of 14 days.

All kinds of S40 emulators, mostly 240x320 (S40 6th Edition: 320x480 only).
(Go to Tools - Preferences - General - and check "100% Pixel-to-pixel accuracy".
Then go to Tools - Copy LCD 100% and the emulator will copy a 240x320 shot of the current screen to your clipboard)

If you want to make screenshots for a Series 40 theme presentation, I recommend using
- the "Series 40 SDK 3d Edition Feature Pack 2" if you create themes for the older Nokia Series 40 3d Edition phones
- the "Series 40 SDK 5th Edition Feature Pack 1" if you create themes for the newer Nokia Series 40 5th or 6th Edition phones
If you don't know if a specific phone is a 3d, 5th or 6th Edition one, look it up in the
Nokia Device Specifications.

As an alternative, you could google for Nokia Screen Dumper, a tool which allows you to take screenshots directly from your phone by connecting it to your PC via cable. However, menu pop-ups don't show up in NSD screenshots.

The good old emus Posted Image, are they still alive? :tehk-cool:
In the meantime, Nokia also provided an emulator for the newest Series 40 Touch and Type phones (Series 40 6th Edition, Feature Pack 1). It's called "Nokia SDK for Java" and can be downloaded here.

Until now, there are two Touch and Type handsets, the C3-01 and X3-02 and three new beauties (C2-02, C2-03 and C2-06) will soon hit the shelves. Perhaps an opportunity for themers to explore new grounds and make Touch and Type owners happy as there are only a handful TT themes so far.
The themes for Touch and Type phones can be done with the well-known Carbide.ui for Series 40 phones together with the accordant plug-in.

Happy theming!

Personally i have always used Remote Device Access which allows to use a huge number of Nokia devices.
It also can be used to test themes/apps/games on a device that you don't own but to which is targeted
